We were so excited to host nationally-acclaimed chef, Nok Suntaranon, for an evening book signing of her cookbook Kalaya's Southern Thai Kitchen on Thursday, May 14. Our shop was glowing with neighbors, dedicated Pine Pals, and new faces, all celebrating Chef Nok and her magnetic energy on a perfect, late-spring evening.

Throughout the special evening, everyone had an intimate opportunity to meet the James Beard Award-winning chef and purchase personalized, signed copies of her beloved cookbook. Kalaya's Southern Thai Kitchen is a shop favorite, and features 100 of Chef Nok's perfected recipes. The cookbook highlights ingredients and dishes from her homeland of Southern Thailand, often featured at her Philadelphia-based restaurant Kalaya, which was just awarded Outstanding Restaurant at the 2026 James Beard Awards, and was named one of the Best New Restaurants in the country by Esquire and Food & Wine in 2020 (all our Philly Pine Pals already are in the know).

Chef Nok's book signing was truly a beautiful, inter-generational gathering complete with artisan baked goods from Manna Bakery—Philadelphia's First Levantine-inspired Third Culture Bakery founded by Saif Manna. Saif made a special floral cookie just for the event—a gorgeous Pistachio-Rose Chocolate Chunk, wow!—alongside other Manna Bakery staples including Honey Sesame and Olive Oil Chocolate Chunk. Be on the lookout for Saif at farmer's markets—always buzzing with the longest line of dedicated fans. We cannot wait for his brick and mortar to open later this year in Fishtown!
